今年の四月から合気道を始め、先輩たちのサポートのおかげで、稽古の都度、スムーズにわざは行われていきました。今回の昇級審査のきっかけに、初めて同じ初心レベルの方を相手として組むことになりました。その時、いつもと違うことに気付きました。わざはスムーズに行われないかった。 中学生時代、ベトナムで5年間空手道を学びました。その時、相手を負かすため、攻撃と守備という技術を中心とした稽古でした。空手道において、攻撃と守備はお互いに繋がることが必要ありません。ただし、合気道は違います。“受け”と“取り”はお互いに繋がっていないとコミュニケーションになりません。言い換えると練習になりません。特に初心者に対して、うまい受け技術の先輩と一緒に稽古をしないと戸惑いになり、技術が勉強になりません。先輩は初心者の苦手なことを受け止め、わざの実行がスムーズにできるため、動きを調和してあげ、一歩一歩ずつ初心者を誘導してあげます。 私は審査前その事に気付かなかった。“受け”の技術を気にせず、“取り”の技術ばかり集中しました。今回の昇級審査のおかげで、新しいことが勉強出来ました。これから、“取り”の技術はもちろん、“受け”技術も磨き、より良い合気道技術を身に付けていこうと思います。
I started aikido in April of this year. Thanks to all the support of my seniors, during every practice session, I was able to do techniques smoothly. Very recently, when taking a kyu examination, for the first time, I paired with another beginner. I noticed it was different from usual. The techniques wouldn’t go smoothly.
When I was in junior high school, I practiced karate for five years in Vietnam. Practice centered on techniques of attack and defense to defeat the opponent. In karate, there is no need for any connection with the opponent, in either role being practiced. But aikido is different. If uke and tori are not connected with each other, there is no communication. In other words, there is no practice being realized. Especially for beginners, if they don’t practice with seniors who are good at uke, it creates hesitation and doubt, and study of technique is hindered. Because seniors can perceive and adjust to the shortcomings of the beginner, make technique go smoothly, and match the movement with the beginner, they can guide the beginner step by step.
I did not know or notice this before my test. I never paid attention to the technical ability of being uke, only focusing on that of being tori.
Thanks to the examination, I was able to study something new. From now on, I would like to acquire good aikido technique not only improving my tori skill, but uke skill as well.
